European Union | Funding Opportunities - Horizon Europe’s Cancer Mission & #BeActive EU Sport Awards

The European Commission’s funding programme has launched five EU Missions, including one focused on Cancer, while the European Education and Culture Executive Agency has initiated the #BeActive EU Sport Awards contest.
Calls will be closed in September!

Horizon Europe launched its work programme for 2025 with five EU Missions to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges through a mission-oriented, inclusive, and solution-driven approach. The EU Missions (Adaptation to Climate Change; Cancer; 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030; Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030; A Soil Deal for Europe) aim to deliver measurable results by 2030.

Among them, the Cancer Mission specifically seeks to reduce the cancer burden across Europe. Its goal is to improve the lives of more than 3 million people by 2030 through better cancer prevention, earlier diagnosis, more effective treatment, and comprehensive support for patients, survivors, and their families. A key emphasis is placed on improving the quality of life beyond clinical outcomes.

From a physiotherapy perspective, there is a notable funding opportunity through a joint call between the Cancer Mission and the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission:

“Increasing walking and cycling: to reap health benefits, emission reductions and integrate active mobility and micro-mobility devices, with smart technologies and infrastructure”

(HORIZON-MISS-2025-06-CIT-CANCER-01), closing on 04 September 2025

This call may be of particular interest to physiotherapists and rehabilitation professionals, as it aligns with core priorities such as promoting physical activity, supporting cancer recovery through movement, and contributing to healthier urban environments.

#BeActive-EU-SPORT-AWARDS - Inclusion

#BeActive-EU-SPORT-AWARDS - Volunteering

#BeActive-EU-SPORT-AWARDS - Across generations

#BeActive-EU-SPORT-AWARDS - Peace

Organisations that have made an impact in encouraging physical activity across schools, workplaces, communities, or non-formal learning environments are invited to apply for a new award recognising their efforts.

If your organisation’s initiatives have successfully promoted movement and healthier lifestyles in any of these settings, you could be eligible. The call's deadline closes on 24 September 2025. For more information and how to apply, visit the EU Funding & Tenders Portal here.
